Skillshare Review for Artists

If you are not aware of Skillshare, it is basically an online education website where anyone can put up classes on whatever subject they please.

Currently, there are over 17,000 classes on Skillshare. However, we are not interested in all of those classes, but rather just anything to help us become better artists. The topics covered by Skillshare are diverse, with everything from crafts, design, photography, marketing, business and fine art.

First Impressions

Skillshare is easy to use and navigate. The classes are all relatively short and teach smaller projects, which you are encouraged to try for yourself and share with the community.

An issue I can see straight away though is a general lack of quality in the classes. This is because anyone can create a class and put it on Skillshare. But with that being said, there are some great classes you can take.

Art Classes on Skillshare

The art classes on Skillshare seem to be targeted mostly at beginners, with classes on drawing, acrylic painting, oil painting, and many on watercolor painting.

Pricing

As far as pricing goes, Skillshare is one of the cheaper platforms, with a monthly subscription of around $16 per month or a cheaper annual plan.

They also offer a very generous 2-month free trial period which you can grab here.

Is It Worth It for Artists?

In all honesty, I do not think it is worth paying for the premium membership for the art classes.

However, what I do recommend (and this is what I did) is that you take them up on the free trial period if not already. In two months you can absorb as much information as you can from the Skillshare classes then, if you want, cancel your subscription at no cost.

One gripe I do have is that you need to enter your credit card details when signing up for the free trial. This is probably to catch out those who forget to cancel the membership before the rollover date. However, I had no issues canceling and there were no hidden charges.

So at the end of the day, I suggest you take them up on the 2-month free trial before they change it (as it seems extremely generous and has the potential for abuse).
