I struggled to finish this one. I wanted to finish it before we left for K’gari Island, but I just couldn’t solve a problem with part of the water. I must have tested 15 or so different color variations, to no avail.
Turns out what I really needed was a break from the painting and to let my mind rest. When I returned a few days ago, the solution came easily. A few colors and a few strokes, and I was able to finish the painting in 10 minutes.
Sometimes you can’t brute-force the challenging problems. It’s better to step away and return with fresh eyes and a clear mind. Though easier said than done! It’s hard to step away when you don’t know the next steps.
I’ll share progress shots and lessons learned from the painting when I get a chance. In the meantime, here are some close-ups:
