Here’s a painting I’ve been working on. It’s not yet complete, but it’s mostly there. It depicts the beach at Byron Bay, Australia. We visited Byron Bay a few weeks ago to celebrate Chontele and my 10-year anniversary. This painting will be a pleasant reminder of that time.

I’m painting from a photo, but what I really want to convey is how I experienced that moment there on the beach, with my daughter Elora running around behind me. I want to convey the cold, wet sand against my feet. The push and pull of the ocean. The crashing waves and whitewash. The wind and sand whipping my legs. The light bouncing off the water’s surface and the wet sand, creating all kinds of interesting colors and effects. This is what I’m really painting, not just a photo of a seascape. The photo is just there to remind me of these things.
I’ll let you know how it turns out.
