Julia Clough
What I like:
- It captures a moment in time on a beach by my home.
- The sea and sky were an attempt to paint the true colour in the moment.
What could be improved for next time:
- The birds and my synergy are a little bit undefined I tried to be loose and fast but it looks a bit overworked.
Hi Julia!
Nice painting. I just did two similar ones:
https://drawpaintacademy.com/two-recent-paintings-and-a-lesson-on-simplification/
What I like:
- Overall pleasing composition and color theme. I can feel the sun’s warmth and the crisp sea breeze.
- The sky has a great sense of movement and activity. The clouds look fluffy and transient.
- Good job capturing the rigid and harsh texture of the rocks.
- I like the soft horizon line that allows the sea to melt into the sky.
What could be improved for next time:
- The two birds need some work. I like how they are subtle, but they need to be cleaned up a bit. Perhaps a few hard edges or dark accents would work well here.
- For the water, try to feel the contours. Up, down, left, right, over, under. At the moment, the water has a very horizontal, rigid feel rather than a fluid feel.
- You could use some subtle color variance in the sky and water. Perhaps around the horizon line. This would add more depth. See my two paintings here as an example.
