Carl Maugeri
What I like:
- I was trying to get at the relationship between artist and subject; kind of the inner world and outside reality. I was vacationing in the Adirondacks and the picture reminds me of two happy themes of art and nature.
What could be improved for next time:
- Would like to have succeeded better in capturing the difference between the interior light and the outer natural light. Perhaps a better compositional arrangement of the artistic materials below the window.
What I like:
- Love the composition and theme. An interesting take. I also like the meta theme of painting yourself painting. It's subtle and not overdone.
- You did well with the drawing. Not an easy scene to paint.
- I like the contrast between the warm, dark interior and the bright greens and light outside. But I do agree with your comments that this could be pushed harder.
What could be improved for next time:
- It might be more effective to include the top of the window frame. This will help contain attention within the painting. But, I don't mind it as is.
- Careful with defaulting to black for dark accents. There are many other colors that could do the same job but better. The same goes for white as highlights.
